Convocation hues – II

Part I : http://innominate-iam.blogspot.com/2008/08/convocation-hues.html

I could convince Paaji (aka Anuraag sometimes) to attend the convocation but couldn’t convince his luck. Well, something better happened with him, got his joining date, but on the very day of our departure. And how can we be so perfect with planning? Something must go wrong, and this was the first of the series. I canceled his ticket. We were relying on Tiwari for his Camera, but he backed off for some stupid (?) reasons. I and Lalli were only two of the class of 18 to attend the convocation.

Tiwari got news from his information network. “The convocation fees must be deposited before 6 today; else you won’t get the degree on stage.” IIIT management is very good at creating rules overnight and implementing them. It was 6 already and I had left my house to catch PrayagRaj. There was no way to deposit the fees in time. Office-leave-train-fair-cancel-convocation-robe-no-stage-waste-useless-loser-time-waste... Brain works so fast. I got the news confirmed from PPS, official IIIT khabari. It was so true. I have weird habit of taking chances if I see even 0.1% probability. I continued towards NDRS, repeating “I want degree on stage” to myself.

Got delayed due to traffic, I saw Prayag Raj moving. Caught it!!! (Eating Pani-Poori at IFFCO chauk was unnecessary:))

Relying on Lalli was another risk we took. We all are losers, but Lalli is worst of us. Draft in favor of “IIIT-Allahabad” was required. Respected sir brought it for “IIT”, payable at Allahabad. I had asked him to deposit it early in the morning. When I reached hostel, respected sir was in Gym with a couple of juniors. I am a bigger idiot to join him and give him a “super set” for biceps.

Well, thank god, somehow we deposited the fees by 10:00 and got a robe!!

Director bored us with his typical speech. Nobel laureate killed us with his speech. I and Lalli fell asleep. Suddenly one of the coordinators of the event woke us up, gave some water and we were all set to receive the degree. Receiving the degree was just a formality now.

I was supposed to get the degree certificate for Paaji, and 3 others. While sending authorization mails for all, paaji had jumbled names and roll numbers!! Exam-cell guy started crying:). I explained the situation to that kid and got the remaining degrees.

Well, still we had some scope to mess the situation up. Lalli grabbed the opportunity. He forgot paaji’s “Cap from Korea” in hostel, and realized it at a distance of 8KM from IIIT. He went back to take it.

I had plans to go to office next morning. PrayagRaj was delayed by 4 hrs!!! “God … Thanks a lot:)”!!

All degrees are with Lalli. (Paaji, Pranay, Neelam, Preety)’s money is with me. My thesis report is with Pranay. All messed up, we still have some plan for long weekend, and are optimistic that it will work!!

Yeah! I got the degree, but some one forgot to put the stamp of H'Onourable Director.
Lalli bought the cap back, but lost his new T-Shirt while Shopping in the Mall and and left his old shirt back here in Delhi!

I wish I'd have been there!
